Abstract

Descriptive research is a form of research that aimed to describe the phenomena that exist, whether a natural phenomenon or man-made phenomenon. The phenomenon could be the shape, activity, characteristics, changes, relationships, similarities and differences between one phenomenon with other phenomena (Sukmadinata, 2006: 72). Descriptive research is research that seeks to describe and interpret things, such as the condition or relationship, a growing opinion, the ongoing processes, results or effects, or about the ongoing trend. Furchan (2004: 447) explains that descriptive research is research designed to obtain information about the status of a symptom when the study was conducted. Further explained, in a descriptive study no treatment was given or controlled and there is no hypothesis testing as found in research experiments. Whitney (1960) argues, the descriptive method is a fact-finding with the correct interpretation. Descriptive research studying the problems in society, as well as the procedure applicable in the community and specific situations, including about relationships, activities, attitudes, views and processes are ongoing and the effects of a phenomenon.
