Abstract

The background matters of characteristic of Shopping Streets at Malioboro Research is the development of modern shopping center at the cities that have threatened the existing of traditional shopping center designed as “shopping street” and conservation buildings. The developing of Shopping Streets at ancient buiding and conservation area has double functions as follows: to add unigue impression for shopping street, so the customers will visit oftenly, to lift and make up the impression of ancient buildings and conservation area, and to conserve the substance activity and valuable city buildings, the same as social activities and historical building. Shopping Streets at Malioboro are very interesting to be research because its succesful as shopping streets area that has impression and the unique of local conservation area, whereas the objects that have conserved are: street vendors, traditional transportation activity and arcade
